Maxhosa welcome to America

Maxhosa Becomes a King of Royal Drip

Hollywood has crowned Laduma Ngxokolo of Maxhosa Africa as the King of ‘Royal Drip’. This comes after Laduma dressed the lead and award-winning actor Eddie Murphy, for the sequel of the much-loved film ‘Coming to America’.

The official propaganda arm of the Kingdom of Zamunda, established in 1988 through the Eddie Murphy film, announced in a tweet that Laduma deserves the crown.

According to the tweet Ngxokolo is, “a sage partner creating Royal Drip with Queen @IamRuthECarter, and a bridge between Hollywood and our neighbours in South Africa.” They continued, “…we bestow this crown upon thee @ladumaNgxokolo.”

This tweet comes off the back of the release of the trailer for the sequel of the film, which will be released on March 5. Oscar-winning costume designer, Ruth E. Carter, whose work can be seen in movies like Selma, Malcolm X and Black Panther, approached the South African designer to partner with her for this film.

Laduma told his fans about this recent achievement on Instagram this week saying, “Got a call from the queen of costume design @therealruthecarter in 2019 to co-work with her on a few @Maxhosa pieces for the Coming 2 America film, the rest was history and history was made.”

This is a double win for South Africa not only did Laduma dress Eddie Murphy, but also South African sweetheart Nomzamo Mbatha who is part of the cast in the film. It’s no secret that Laduma’s work is a celebration of heritage and reflects African excellence. He has become a true ambassador of the African aesthetic signified by his use of bold print and colour.

Following the hype from the official trailer, it won’t be surprising if the film inspires fashion to reignite it’s love for African print.
